No fewer than 30 physically-challenged persons, yesterday, got skills-based training to make them self-employed, in Owerri, in Imo State, courtesy of Impact Life Medical Foundation in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC).

Coordinator of Impact Life, Mrs. Ogechi Okehielam, highlighted some of the skills which the participants were equipped to include shoemaking, bead making, phone repairs, confectionery, make-up, wig making, head tie as well as photography.

She said: “This capacity building programme for the physically challenged is aimed at meeting the global unemployment challenge, especially as it regards the physically challenged.

“The dire consequences of unemployment is on the increase and you will observe that it appears that the physically-challenged people have been abandoned. Some of the beneficiaries will receive mobility such as wheelchairs, crutches in addition to the starter packs that have been given to them.”

One of the resource persons in phone repairing, Mr. Steve Eke, confirmed that the areas needed to take the trainees were adequately covered.

One of the beneficiaries, Tochukwu Nwoekeukwu, said: “I will use this opportunity to ensure that I establish a bigger workshop and assist other people who need help.”
