Eko hot blog reports that In a recent announcement from Abuja, Maj Gen Paul Tarfa (rtd), Chairman of the Board of the Commission, revealed the NEDC’s plan to distribute a whopping 300,000 bags of rice along with other essentials.
This initiative, he explained, is part of the Federal Government’s commitment, spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu, to alleviate the widespread hardships faced by citizens nationwide to share 300,000 bags of rice.
The relief package includes 200,000 cartons of spaghetti and macaroni, 100,000 cartons of sugar, and 100,000 bags of branded mats, all slated for distribution across states like Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, and Bauchi.
But that’s not all. The NEDC isn’t stopping at just food. They’re also providing 100,000 branded blankets, 100,000 sets of men’s clothing (shedda), 100,000 women’s wrappers, and 100,000 pieces of children’s clothing. Additionally, 100,000 cartons of vegetable oil will be included in the aid package.
During the announcement, Gen. Tarfa, accompanied by the Managing Director of the NEDC, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali, highlighted the Commission’s focus on ongoing development projects in the region. They emphasized the commitment to completing all road projects and 500 housing units for the rehabilitation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
In a move aimed at both reducing transportation costs and creating job opportunities for youths, the NEDC also revealed plans to procure and deploy e-vehicles across the six states of the zone.
This bold initiative by the NEDC underscores a concerted effort to provide much-needed relief and support to communities grappling with economic challenges.
