32-Year-Old Arraigned for Parading as Lawyer
Eko Hot Blog reports that a 32-year-old man, Olumide Yerokun, has been arraigned at the Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan for allegedly impersonating a lawyer, Ayo Olu (Esq).
Yerokun, whose address was not provided, appeared in court on Friday.
He faces charges of impersonation and obtaining money under false pretences, but he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, told the court that Yerokun allegedly committed the offences on June 5 at about 6:25 p.m. in the Jericho, Eleyele area of Ibadan.
He claimed that the defendant falsely represented himself as lawyer Ayo Olu (Esq) with intent to defraud.
Opaleye further alleged that on June 3, Yerokun fraudulently posed as a solicitor for PA Opadiran and served a quit notice to Mrs. Idayat Akapo and two others, while pretending to be a lawyer.

He accused Yerokun of representing himself as a legal practitioner by preparing, signing, and serving statutory notices.
Additionally, the prosecutor stated that in December 2023, Yerokun presented himself as a legal practitioner to PA Opadiran and fraudulently obtained N25,000 from Mrs. Akapo as a legal fee for preparing a tenancy agreement. These actions, Opaleye said, contravene Sections 484 and 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted Yerokun bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until August 14 for hearing.
Mrs. Folasade Aladeniyi, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ibadan chapter, appeared in court with some members of the branch.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of the NBA’s Anti-Touting and Ethics Committee, Mr. Segun Popoola, stated that the association strongly condemns such acts and warned that they will ensure the prosecution of anyone found guilty of such offenses.
