Smoked fish typically lasts longer and doesn’t go bad compared to many other fish species that may be eaten by people. But everything with advantages also has disadvantages.

1. They could cause food poisoning

Consuming smoked fish also raises your risk of developing stomach cancer. Nitrates and nitrites, byproducts of smoking, are found in high concentrations in smoked fish.
More research is required, but several studies have suggested that eating a lot of smoked fish may increase your risk of developing certain cancers, particularly colon cancer.
