After eight years in government, President Buhari, who is constitutionally forbidden from running for re-election, will leave aside in 2023.
President Buhari was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on May 29, 2015, beating incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (PDP). The president, who is serving his final eight-year term, will give over authority to the elected presidential candidate next year.
During President Buhari’s tenure as President of Nigeria. He has had a significant impact on the country’s numerous sectors.

1. Introduction to National Social Investment Program
The National Social Investment Program of Nigeria is a social welfare initiative created in 2015. The Program was created to ensure a more equitable distribution of resources to vulnerable populations, including children, youth, and women. Under President Buhari four major programs were created to address poverty and help increase economic development.
The N-Power (Nigeria) program provides young Nigerians with job training and education, as well as a monthly stipend of 30,000 Nigerian naira. The conditional cash transfer program directly supports the most vulnerable by providing no-strings-attached cash to those in the lowest income group, helping reduce poverty, improve nutrition and self-sustainability, and supporting development through increased consumption.
The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program (GEEP) is a micro-lending investment program targeting entrepreneurs with a focus on young people and women. Also, the Home Grown School Feeding Program (HGSF) is another way the government employ to increase school enrollment by providing meals to schoolchildren, particularly those in poor and food-insecure regions. All these are done to improve the standard of living in Nigeria.
2. The Increase in Minimum Wage
On April 18, 2019, President Buhari signed the new minimum wage bill. The bill, which had become a law, ushered in a new pay structure for Nigerian workers. he raised the minimum wage from 18,000 naira a month to 30,000 naira. President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent to increase the minimum wage to N30,000 is perhaps a legacy that Nigerians won’t forget despite their region or State.
3. Development of Railway Services
President Buhari administration tried as much to provide rail transportation to thousands of commuters across the country. It included the156-kilometre Lagos-Ibadan Standard Gauge Rail completed and commissioned, within a record time of four years (2017 to 2021); 8.72km extension to Lagos-Ibadan Rail Line, to Lagos Port Complex, completed in 2021.
The 186km Abuja-Kaduna Standard Gauge Rail Line, was completed and commissioned in 2016 while the 327km Itakpe-Warri Standard Gauge Rail was also completed and commissioned in 2020. Also, construction has commenced on Kaduna-Kano Standard Gauge Rail Line, following the ground-breaking by President Buhari in July 2021.
4. Not Too Young to Run Bill
On May 31, 2018, Muhammadu Buhari signed the Not Too Young To Run bill into law. Not Too Young To Run is an act of parliament which sought to reduce the age limit for running for elective office in Nigeria.

The bill seeks alteration in sections 65, 106, 131, and 177 of the Constitution of Nigeria, which is to reduce the age of running for elective positions in the House of Assembly and House of Representatives from 30 years old to 25 years old, Senate and Governorship from 35 year old to 30-year-old and office of the president from 40 to 30 and independent candidature in Nigeria. This allows youth to run for elective office in Nigeria.
