Four members of a gang that robbed, snatched exotic cars and kidnapped people have been sentenced to death by hanging by a Delta State High Court in Asaba.
Justice Flora Azinge convicted four out of the five defendants on all nine charges brought against them and accordingly sentenced them to death by hanging on the count of armed robbery.
The accused persons are Uche Uzondu, Emeka Amukali, Paul Egwom, Festus Oghali and David Mario.
Azinge discharged and acquitted David Mario of all the charges for lack of sufficient evidence by the prosecution linking him to the crime.
The court held that the state established and proved beyond reasonable doubt the offences for which they were charged and that the defendants failed to create any doubt.
Reacting, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Peter Mrakpor, who spoke through the Director of Public prosecution, DPP, Ernest Edomwonyi, said the court verdict is justice well delivered on the victims and for the society and expressed the hope that it would serve as a deterrent to others.
