4 Steps You Should Take For Safety After A Snake Bite

EDITOR’S PICK:

There have been numerous cases of snake bite in different corners of the world, most especially in the tropical and arid regions in Africa. Deep research has shown that over 1,000 persons die each year due to snake bites.

As an individual who resides in tropical regions and snake prone areas, it becomes pivotal to enact strict measures that will reduce or completely eradicate their existence in your neighbourhood. Apart from adhering to the preventive measures, it is also important to know the tactics that can be used in emergent cases of snake attacks.

So, in this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at things you should do after a snake bite.

1. Be calm – Do not move or start running immediately.

I understand it is instinctive to run and seek help when bitten by a snake, however; studies have shown that running and yelling when bitten by a snake shouldn’t be the first thing to do but to stay calm.

Doing so will help reduce the circulatory pace of the venom through the lymph. When a person is attacked on the leg or hand, the venom is first infused by the snake bite into the lymph which contains white blood cells which are responsible for the circulation of fluids around the body. The lymph moves only when the limbs are subjected to motion.

2. Don’t seek revenge – But give more priority to saving your life

I understand you want to take your revenge and strike the snake before it gets away, but have you considered the possibility of being bitten the second time? Research has proven that most cases of snake attacks are usually for defensive purposes.

After a snake bite, you should first focus on reducing the impact of the venom than trying to revenge, which might expose you to more risk. The idea behind this is to give more attention to saving your life rather than chasing a reptile.

3. Apply pressure to the bitten area

Snake bites usually occur on the leg or hand, which makes it very possible to carry out personal treatments. To help yourself in such a situation, use a bandage or rope to tie above the affected area to stop the venom from moving through the lymph. In cases where there is no rope or bandage, you can use your shirt to apply the pressure on the wounded part before proper treatment is administered.

4. Seek proper treatment at the hospital

The final remedy in this sort of situation is to employ the service of a health practitioner for the complete removal of the venom from the affected area. Research has shown that most persons, especially the unenlightened ones will go home and continue with their routine after applying the first 3 remedies.

It is necessary to understand that the first 3 procedures are preservative measures aimed at sustaining your life and will not completely remove the impact of the venom in the affected area.
