As you grow older, your body parts and organs begin to age too. People above 45 years of age are at higher risk of developing heart diseases which is why you should make sure taking care of your heart is your priority. There are certain things you should be doing every day if you want your heart to keep working efficiently.
You might have already known that exercise and diet are important for heart health, however, there are some other things you should take into consideration if you want a healthy heart.
1. Watch the fats you eat
Fats are an essential part of our diet, however, we must stick to healthy fats and avoid trans fat. Trans fat clogs your arteries leading to high bad cholesterol levels and increasing the risk of having stroke and heart diseases.
2. Practice good dental hygiene
The health of your teeth affects other parts of your body including the heart. Those bacteria in the mouth that causes gum diseases can also enter your blood and increase the risk of having heart diseases and stroke. Hence, you should brush and floss daily.
3. Get quality rest daily
Research shows that adults who sleep for less than 6 hours per night have double the risk of having heart disease as those who slept for more than six hours per night. Make it a habit to sleep for about 7-8 hours
4. Don’t sit in a place for too long
Sitting down in a position for long periods is bad for your health no matter how much exercise you do. A study shows that people who sat for long hours have a 90% chances increase in death.
