48 Kwara State University Students Among 50 Arrested For Alleged Cybercrime
Eko Hot Blog reports that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 48 students from Kwara State University and two other residents of Malete for alleged involvement in cybercrime and internet fraud, according to a statement released on Thursday by the agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
Oyewale said the arrests were made after “credible intelligence over the rising trend of “yahoo-yahoo” business in the state, especially on campuses.”

He stated that the EFCC carried out “discrete investigations” and surveillance before closing in on the suspects and arresting them on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 in their various hideouts.
Among those arrested were Idris Yekini, Ayantola Segun, Adeshina Taheeb, Mustapha Alamin, Usman Harun, Oladimeji Oseni, Qudus Temitope, Adewunmi Israel, Lukman Uthman, Alamin Ibitoye, Usman Sadiq, and 36 other named individuals, mostly students of Kwara State University.
The two Malete residents arrested were identified as Babalola Razaq and Godwin Ouna Ejika.
Items recovered from the suspects included 9 exotic cars, 24 laptops, and various mobile phones.

Oyewale stated that “The suspects would soon be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigations.”
