5 Interesting Facts About The New Chief Of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Yahaya
- The former COAS, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru was involved in a military plane crash this month where he lost his life together with 10 other officers.
The Presidency today, 27th May, finally approved the appointment of a new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
Amid the permutations by political and defense watchers on whom the next COAS will be, this new announcement comes as a shock as Yahaya’s name was not even among the expected names penciled down as the next COAS.
However, here are 5 very interesting facts about the new COAS
(1.) He is from ZAMFARA state and a member of the ‘course 37’

(2.) He is the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism, Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation “HADIN KAI”.
(3.) His appointment is surprising as he does not even fall into the list of eligible senior officers of the Nigerian army according to an analysis by news outlets
(4.) As a brigade commander in 2015, he led officers of the Nigerian army to 3-days medical mission at the International Christian Home for the needy, an IDP camp in Edo state.
(5.) He was the officer who took over from the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi.
