EKO HOT BLOG reports that five officers of the Nigeria Police Force were killed when bandits stormed Gatikawa, a community in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, shooting sporadically.
No fewer than eight were killed in the attack which reportedly happened on Wednesday but was confirmed to newsmen some hours ago.
It was gathered that the terror group at about 5:30 pm on Wednesday stormed the community fully armed and numbering over 300.
Upon their bold entrance, the gunmen reportedly started shooting to scare residents away and in the process killed three locals and five mobile police officers who were said to be on special duty from Kano.
A resident, who confirmed the development to Daily Trust, said the gunmen rode on motorcycles and went from house to house carting away anything of value, including money and food items.
According to him, several residents sustained various degrees of injuries, especially those trying to escape from the gunmen. He said the community had been apprehensive following the attack and that some residents had since relocated to neighbouring communities for fear of another attack.
Confirming the attack, the Spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Gambo Isah in a chat with the news platform said: “True, five PMF from Kano on special duty at Kankara and three villagers of Gatakawa.”
