Our bodies detoxification processes are handled by the liver, which also serves as a barrier between ourselves and any toxins we may be exposed to through food or the environment.
Enhancing its performance helps the digestive system work more effectively. So how can we tell if the liver needs to be supported? What symptoms can your liver be having trouble and slowly failing?
In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at signs and symptoms your liver is slowly falling apart.
1. Itchy skin
An odd itch or breakout is not caused for alarm, but persistent itching or a strong impulse to scratch could be signs of liver damage. The process of removing toxins from your body is hampered by a sluggish liver, and skin irritation can result. These poisons can accumulate too much and lead to inflammation. In many circumstances, toxins leave your body through your skin if the liver cannot remove them.
2. Persistent Fatigue
Low energy levels are frequently an indication that your liver is under stress. In general, being exhausted all the time is not a sign that your liver is overworked; but, being excessively weary along with any of these other symptoms could be cause for concern. When the body needs an energy boost, the liver stores and provides the body with glucose, and when stressed, it may be less effective at controlling these stockpiles.
3. Jaundice
Your skin and eyes may start to seem yellow due to jaundice. It manifests when your blood has an excessive amount of bilirubin. Your red blood cells contain bilirubin, a yellow-orange pigment.
The liver removes bilirubin from the circulation when the red blood cells stop functioning. But if your liver isn’t working properly, it could find it difficult to keep up with this filtering procedure. The amount of bilirubin in the bloodstream may increase as a result of this. Your skin appears yellow as a result of this.
4. Swollen legs and ankles
An underactive liver is one of many conditions that can manifest as swollen legs or ankles.
The liver may not be able to create enough albumin if it isn’t functioning properly. A protein called albumin prevents blood from seeping into the tissues around blood arteries.
A lack of albumin may allow fluid to seep into the tissues, causing them to expand.
5. Mood changes
The liver cells cannot effectively filter poisons when they are operating slowly. As a result, dangerous chemicals like ammonia accumulate in the blood. In turn, this may have profound psychological implications.
You can find it more challenging to focus, or you might continually forget things or feel confused. Cirrhosis or liver impairment can have a significant negative impact on a person’s personality or mood if left untreated.
