Ageing is a normal and integral part of the body, after all, throughout life, body parts would undergo certain wear and tear, and over time, the effects of such wear and tears would show on the body.

But, it is believed that ageing should be progressive and signs of ageing should be commensurate with age.

EDITOR’S PICK:

In some instances, however, ageing may start earlier than normal and in such instances, some signs may help point to a faster-than-normal ageing process.

In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at some signs your body is ageing faster than normal, and how to reverse them.

1. Slow walking

According to WebMD, one of the telltale signs that you are ageing faster than normal is if you notice that your walking pace considerably slows down in your 40s.

To reverse this symptom of a faster-than-normal ageing process, it is recommended you engage in a walking program. You can begin with 5 minutes a day and build up to 30 minutes, and then try to work up to 100 steps a minute. This can be easier on you if you want supportive walking shoes and have a partner you walk with.

2. Sunspots

Brown spots, according to Dany Paul Baby of WebMD, often appear on the face, hands, and arms, and are especially common in people who are 50 years. While brown spots are generally considered harmless and caused by being in the sun for long, it is nevertheless important you see your doctor if you are black, notice your shape changes, bleed, or have a rough border. To reverse/prevent sun spots, you should not stay outdoors between 10 am and 2 pm when the sun is at its strongest, and wearing sunscreen can help.

3. Memory problems

It is considered normal that you start undergoing mild memory changes as you age and this may start to be more pronounced as from your 40s. This could lead to scenarios where it takes you longer to recall facts and names. However, Alzheimer’s and other types of age-related mental decline should not start until after you are well in your mid-60s. Since dementia is not a normal part of ageing, you can prevent it by eating healthy foods, staying socially active, and exercising.

4. Achy joints

While it is not everyone that gets stiff and achy joints as they get older, the chances of having osteoarthritis and other joint problems often increase as you age. If you are a man, you may start experiencing certain symptoms after age 45, and age 55 in women. To slow down the progression of this ageing process, you should endeavour to engage in exercises, including flexibility, strength training, and aerobic exercises.

5. Dry skin
