Sleep is a vital, often neglected, component of every person’s overall health and well-being. Sleep is important because it enables the body to repair and be fit and ready for another day.
On the other hand, not getting enough sleep can affect your body in many ways.
In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at some signs that your body is not getting enough sleep.
1. Sagging Eyes
Bloodshot eyes, dark circles, and sagging under the eyes are all signs of sleep deprivation. People who are sleep deprived tend to have wrinkles and puffiness under their eyes.
2. Acne
Sleep deprivation can affect your skin as well. According to studies lack of adequate sleep can also lead to acne.
This is because sleep regulates various hormones in the body. Sleep deprivation also can weaken the immune system, leaving the body prone to a variety of illnesses.
3. Unhealthy Cravings
It has also been discovered that lack of sleep can lead to unhealthy food cravings and the likes. You may face difficulty maintaining healthy habits.
The decision-making process in the brain is weakened when it is deprived of sleep, making it more inclined to crave harmful meals (which are high in calories rather than provide essential nutrients).
4. Concentration and memory loss
Studies have proved that, missing even two hours of sleep out of an eight-hour day, you are more likely to have difficulty concentrating and remembering.
5. Gaining weight
When you get enough sleep on a daily basis, your body can regulate hunger hormones such as leptin and ghrelin.
If you lose control, you’ll feel compelled to consume more, which could contribute to weight gain. Ghrelin, sometimes known as the “hunger hormone,” is a hormone that increases appetite when the stomach is empty.
