5 Taboos In Hausa Land That Everyone Should Avoid While Visiting

• Whenever you plan to visit a place you’ve never been before, It’s important you learn about their history, customs, and taboos.
• As a stranger, you cannot ignore people’s customs and culture.
• Certain actions in some Muslim counties will land you in prison, or result in a fine or other severe punishment.

(1.) Please refrain from drinking alcoholic drinks in public. This is not about religion, even the government prohibits it.

To avoid a fine or a prison sentence, avoid drinking alcohol in public.

(2.) You are not permitted to consume pork meat of any kind in a Hausa land. This is because they regard Pork meat as an unclean meat.

You are free to eat other kinds of meat in the public, but when you are caught selling or eating pork meat, it could land you in serious trouble.

(3.) When you are pressed and feel like urinating in the public, do not stand upright.

Both men and women are expected to squat and pass urine. Failure to adhere to this rule could land you in trouble.

(4.) If you are a woman and you are going to spend your vacation in Hausa land, make sure you wear clothes that cover your body properly.

The indecent dressing could put you in trouble in some of the extremely religious parts of Hausa land.

(5.) Men are not allowed to wear silk or gold in the public, it is against their religious beliefs.
