In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we would be looking at some signs of diabetic foot and possible complications.
What Are the Signs Of Diabetic Foot Problems?
1. Pain In the Legs otherwise referred to as pins and needles.
2. Open Sores that are slow to heal or not even healing. The reason is that nerve damage or neuropathy makes a person lose sensitivity thus making the leg prone to injuries that are often not treatable.
3. Foot Odour That’s unusual or sudden
4. Tingling Feelings in the Feet. This is due to peripheral neuropathy otherwise referred to as nerve damage that happens when a person’s sugar level remains high for an extended period.
5. Changes In Skin Colour; the skin of the legs will have dark patches that are often rusty or brown.
The question now is, what are some of the complications that can arise if the sugar level is not managed effectively? Uncontrolled diabetes still has a lot of other dangerous effects on the human body and they are as follows;
1. Skin and Bone Infections; this is one of the complications that is almost certain if you don’t manage your blood sugar effectively. A small cut or wound can lead to numerous other infections due to the loss of sensitivity and also blood vessel damage and nerve damage can all contribute to the infestation of the wound thus causing more problems for you.
2. Gangrene; diabetes affects the blood vessels that supply blood to the fingers and toes. When these blood vessels are either severely affected or cut off, the resultant experience is the death of the tissues. This is very bad and should be one of your fears while you work towards bringing down your blood sugar level.
3. Deformities; nerve damage can weaken the muscles of the feet and lead to deformities like hammertoes, claw feet and many other deformities that are due to nerve damage.
4. Amputation; this is perhaps the most severe complication and arises when the blood sugar is not still managed after the pins and needles.
