5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Charismatic Ubong King

The year 2020 has been replete with breath-taking spectacles, mostly themed by the outbreak of a lethal pandemic amid an endless list of tragedies that have threatened the collective essence of humanity.
As characteristic of the frenetic times which we live in, a lot of very high-profile individuals have fallen to the sword of this invisible enemy which continues to aggressively tear the fabric of human society apart.
On December 26th, 2020, yet another eminent Nigerian lost the fight against the novel coronavirus. His was an inspiring story of relentlessly pursuing a dream, a dream which ultimately translated to become a beacon light of hope to many within Nigeria’s shores and beyond.
Ubong King, as he was widely known, was a business consultant, Security expert and Motivational speaker. His sad passage put succinctly, could be described as a sunset at dawn that has robbed many of his wit and talent.
The popular Nigerian business leader, public speaker and coach, Mr Ubong King was reported dead in the early hours of 26th December 2020 after losing the battle to the novel coronavirus.
As the airwaves continue to echo the sad passing of this rare individual, Eko Hot Blog takes a look at the life and times of a man whose life inspired so many.

(1) Birth and upbringing: Ubong King was born in Lagos State on August 22nd 1972. He obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate from the Federal Government College Lagos, before proceeding to the University of Calabar, where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture.
(2) Professional Practice: As an Agriculturist, King worked as a consultant in a piggery, before venturing into the security industry.
(3) Venture into Security: Ubong King began his career as a volunteer guard in the protocol department of the church he was attending at the time. King went on to start Protection Plus Security Limited. He credited his interest in security to his desire to join the military after his father was unjustly killed without due justice trailing his murder.
King later admitted that his desire to avenge his father’s death was consequently overtaken by a desire to see that no one had to suffer from seeing his/her loved one taken from them in the manner of his own tragedy.
He was a former chairman of The American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) International Chapter 206, Lagos Nigeria.
(4) Leadership/ Personal Coaching: King facilitated and spoke at leadership and management retreats within and outside Nigeria. He was the president of the Ubong King Foundation, a non-profit, non-governmental organisation targeted at training young people towards leadership.
In 2018, the Ubong King Foundation convened the maiden edition of ‘Thinkation’- a platform to encourage productivity among the youth demography in Nigeria.
(5) Family Man: Ubong was married to Unyime Ivy-King. Prior to his death, the marriage was blessed with 4 children.
