The attack occurred during a memorial session in the Hroza village, Kupiansk district of Kharkiv region of the country inhabited by civilians. However, Russia has denied ever targeting civilian in the attack.

World leaders and humans rights activists have expressed their displeasure about the attack on the civilian dominated region of the Kyiv.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the attack as horrifying and further assured the former soviet country of absolute support from the U.S.

Jean-Pierre, further reiterated the need for the West to keep vouching for solidarity for Ukraine against Russia.

“It is incredibly horrifying for the people of Ukraine,” Jean-Pierre told reporters. “This is why we’re doing everything that we can to help Ukraine”, said  Jean-Pierre.

Meanwhile, a senior lawyer at Global Rights Compliance Yousuf Syed Khan, has equally condemned the attack against Ukraine. Khan is assisting Ukraine in building a war crime public prosecution against Russia.

In a statement released today, Khan said: “Today’s senseless attack against a cafe in Hroza village, where a memorial service was being held, is among the deadliest attacks directed against civilians and civilian objects since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion last year. The cafe itself was situated some 40 kilometres from the nearest frontline.”

Khan described the attack to  be power whoring on the part of Russia, thus calling it Russia’s continued “use starvation as a method of warfare across Ukraine”.
