Former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has finally spoken about why she didn’t attend President Donald Trump’s second inauguration earlier this year.
She discussed it on her podcast IMO with Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, alongside her brother and guest actress Taraji P. Henson.
Michelle said she faced a lot of judgment and false stories just because she chose not to attend the event. “People thought I had marriage problems just because I made a personal choice,” she said.
She explained that skipping the inauguration was about taking care of her own well-being and setting boundaries, even though it wasn’t what people expected.
Michelle added that to avoid changing her mind, she didn’t even prepare an outfit for the day. “If I had a dress ready, it would have been easy to just go. So I told my team not to get me anything,” she said.
She also shared that she wanted to teach her daughters, Malia (26) and Sasha (23), how to say “no” and put themselves first, even when it’s hard.
