When it comes to health, sugar has a mixed reputation. However, it is a fundamental source of energy and is necessary for our survival.
In truth, glucose, a simple kind of sugar, is one of the human body’s principal sources of energy. Sugar, on the other hand, can be harmful to the body if consumed in excess. In this article on EKO HOT BLOG, we will be looking at some changes you will notice in your system when you are consuming too much sugar.
1. Unusual Weight Gain
A high sugar diet can lead to weight gain in a variety of ways. It’s high in empty calories with little nutritious value, which encourages your body to store fat and confuses your brain into wanting more.
2. Unexpected Heart Diseases
When you consume too much sugar, the extra insulin in your system can wreak havoc on your arteries throughout your body. It causes their walls to become inflamed, thicker than normal, and stiffer, stressing and damaging your heart over time. Heart illness, such as heart failure, heart attacks, and strokes, can result as a result of this.
3. Aging Skin
Collagen and elastin are two proteins found in our skin that help maintains it elastic and silky. Collagen molecules cross-link when we eat sugar, causing our skin to lose suppleness and leading to wrinkles and other indications of ageing.
4. Fatty Liver
Even if you’re not overweight, sugar has been shown to be as harmful to the liver as alcohol. To create fat, the organ needs fructose, a form of sugar. A fatty accumulation caused by too much-refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup can lead to liver damage.
5. Unexplainable loss of Energy
Some people consume meals with excess sugar and beverages to improve their mood or weariness. That is not the case, however. The energy level does not last for long because most high-sugar diets are nutritionally deficient. They cause a rapid surge in blood sugar and insulin levels, resulting in a brief burst of energy, followed by a sharp decline in energy.
