6 Dead, 7 Rescued In Lagos Boat Accident, Others Missing

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has announced that the agency has recovered 6 dead bodies from the boat accident that happened in Lagos.

According to the agency, the accident happened around 8pm on Friday on the Ebute Ero -Ikorodu waterway.

LASEMA alleged that contrary to the report on Friday, July 3, 2020, that the boat had 14 passengers, the boat was conveying 22 passengers before the crash.

As death toll hits 6, the agency has also safely rescued seven persons alive.

According to the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) of LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, the deceased were all females, while three men and four women were rescued.

He said the six dead female adults recovered at the Ipakodo ferry terminal have now been deposited at the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue.

He explained that three of the deceased corpse have been partly identified while they await others to be identified by members of their family.

“One is Chidera, an undergraduate that studied International Relations awaiting her call-up letter, whose mother was amongst the survivors; Risi and Silifat, he said.

“One of the survivors, Mrs. Ibikunle, recounted her experience. They are all resident in Ikorodu.

“LASEMA Response Teams from Lekki and Agbowa, officers of the Nigeria Police Force Ipakodo division, LASAMBUS and LASWA officials were the responders present at the incident.”
