1. Sitting All Day
Do you have a desk job? Do you often find yourself glued to your desk due to the amount of work you have to do? You may think sitting all day is harmless, but, surprisingly sitting for long hours is linked to a higher risk of death from heart disease.
2. Worrying too much
Actually, Worrying too much is a bad habit that can have an awful impact on your lifespan. Though it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep up with future plans, that doesn’t mean you should worry too much in life. In fact, having too much stress, anxiety, and worry might actually shorten your lifespan. There have been a few studies that have found that worrying too much is a bad habit that can increase the risk of heart problems and overall mortality.
3. The habit of drinking alcohol
Always remember that drinking alcohol excessively is another unhealthy habit that reduces life expectancy. Alcohol in smaller quantities can actually be good, but excessive consumption can harm your health and lower your life span.
4. Not reading books
These days it’s easy to find yourself on the sofa in front of the TV bingeing a box set or two. While we know it’s not the healthiest activity, would sitting and doing something else like reading a book make any difference? Well, it looks like it could. A study by the National Library of Medicine found that compared to non-book readers and people who read just newspapers and magazines, those who love to sit down with a good book had a 23-month survival advantage.
5. Not socialising enough
Another surprising thing that decreases life expectancy is a lack of social interaction. One study found that loneliness may be the biggest threat to survival and longevity, with feelings of loneliness directly impairing the immune system, making us less resistant to diseases and infections.
6. Wearing Earphones For Many Hours
Be it while ravelling, working out, working or studying, many of us have a habit of incessantly plugging in the earphones for multiple hours. This habit is really bad as it can spell hearing loss in the long run. Make sure that you do not spend hours with earphones plugged and keep the volume to an audible enough and not loud as that is the main culprit.
7. Biting Your Nails
Many people bite their nails constantly as a means for passing time or when they are nervous. This habit is not merely a bad personality gesture but is also bad for one’s health because of the germs that stick to our fingers when we touch different surfaces and have bacteria and viruses.
