Reports have it a 7-year-old Chicago girl was critically injured on Christmas when gunfire erupted outside her relative’s home, sending a stray bullet through a living room window.
The unidentified youngster was playing with her younger cousins at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when a 38-year-old man was shot in the leg in a burst of gunfire outside the house, the Chicago Sun-Times said.
One of the bullets flew into the living room, hitting the girl in her abdomen, the paper said. She was still listed as critical Thursday morning.

The intended target of the shooting was a 38-year-old convicted felon and registered gun offender, police told the paper. They would not confirm that he was the same 38-year-old man who later showed up at a local hospital with a bullet wound in his leg, the report said.
The attack left a bullet hole in the living room window of the Brighton Park home next to a Merry Christmas decorations and a Christmas tree.
The girl’s family, from suburban Hanover Park and visiting relatives at the time, told the paper they were “grateful for the outpouring of love and support” as the girl remained in critical condition.
