Divergent Views Greet Reopening Of Schools For Exit Classes
Mixed reactions have begun to trail the Federal Government’s decision to reopen secondary schools for exit classes on August 4th 2020.
The Federal Ministry of Education on Monday announced that students will have two weeks to prepare for the West African Examination, WAEC, which will start on 17th of August.
Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging, Twitter, to express their view on the move.
Some slammed the Government for delaying the school reopening and giving students a short time to prepare for the examination.
“Hmmm…don’t you think we are going to record high failure rates if students sit for WASSCE…its going to be tough on the candidates this year…4th of August” -@boika_nduka
But Former Vice President of Nigeria, Mr Atiku Abubakar commended the education ministry for announcing the reopening of schools, saying students should have prepared thoroughly during the lockdown.
He wrote: “The announcement by the FMoE that the WAEC exam will hold in August is commendable. Learning must go on, especially for exit stage students. I do hope, however, that students writing the exams are well prepared through home study during the lockdown. I wish them the very best”.
