WASSCE 2020: Abia govt Announces August 10 To Reopen Schools

Abia State Government has tentatively fixed August 10, 2020, for reopening of schools to enable students in exit classes prepare and write relevant examinations.

The decision to reopen schools for graduating students was reached after a Stakeholders meeting, which was held by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at Michael Okpara Auditorium of Government House Umuahia on Thursday, 29 July.

According to the Governor, the planned reopening is subject to verifiable compliance with all the proposed COVID-19 prevention and control measures agreed at the summit.

Ekohotblog recalls that this is coming after the Federal Government has said all secondary schools in the country are to résumé academic activities August 4, 2020.

The Federal Ministry of Education said the resumption would only be for SS3 students writing the West African Examinations Council, WAEC and the National Examinations Council, NECO.

“Secondary schools in the country are to reopen as from the 4th of August, 2020 for exit classes only.

“Students will have two weeks within which to prepare for the West African Examinations (WAEC) due to start on the 17th of August, 2020,” the Ministry said.
