The culmination of events that led to Moradeun’s death is a sordid metaphor of everything that’s wrong with Nigeria where the system fails the citizens at every turn. From lack of security to the deplorable Healthcare system.
Moradeun’s death sparked outrage, and rightly so, as individuals, groups, policymakers condemned the attitude of the hospital who refused to treat her because she had no police report and also called on security agencies to ensure that all parties that had a hand in her death are brought to book.
Her death also spurred a legislative push which sought to repeal the diabolical policy of hospitals turning down accident victims who are in serious need of immediate medical attention because they don’t have a police report.
“I will table the issue before the House on Tuesday during sitting. We need to make sure that we no longer lose a life in a needless way again, ” Member, House of Representatives, Epe Federal Constituency, Honourable Wale Raji, who paid a condolence to Moradeun’s parent when the incident occurred had said.
According to him, the 8th Senate Under the leadership of Senator Bukola Saraki passed a law that victims of gunshots should be attended to first by hospitals.
He said, “Moradeun’s case is another unfortunate incident that could have been avoided. We need to look beyond criminalising the rejection of robbery or accident victims and look at the appropriate sanctions for such”
By the same token, The Federal Competition And Consumer protection Council (FCCPC) also opened a public inquiry into her death.
