– The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development has disclosed that the State would work round the clock towards ensuring that Informal business activities are brought back to life.

– He maintained that the move has become necessary since it is a critical avenue for jobs creation.

The Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako has stated the need for government to regulate informal business activities operating in urban and open spaces to make Lagos the cynosure of all eyes as an emerging world economy.

Dr. Salako, who stated this recently at a stakeholders’ meeting in Alausa Ikeja, emphasised that the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority (LASPEMA), must take full charge of Lagos urban spaces as the informal sector provides an avenue for job creation.

He said that the Agency will be energised to become the enforcement arm of the Ministry, through a special regulation in line with the 2019 Urban Development Law as amended, in order to have a full grip of monitoring activities in urban spaces across the State.

The Commissioner, therefore, instituted a six-man committee to work out modalities which would ensure that informal business activities, through LASPEMA, are well monitored.

Recall that the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Authority was created in 2001 to monitor the informal sector activities in urban spaces for sustainable environmental and economic development.
