Strike: UNIUYO Students Protest, Threatens FG And ASUU
National Association of Nigeria Students, University of Uyo chapter, Students protested on Friday, asking the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Unions of Universities to reach a consensus and cut off the strike.
Ikpa Road of the Town Campus of the University was blocked as early as 9.30am, and they warned the Federal Government by giving them seven days to grant their request.
The protesting students were in one voice chanting solidarity songs and lifting placards of various descriptions threatening to shut down Aso Rock and the National Assembly if their request is not acceded to within seven days.
The placards had these words boldly written on it , “We want ASUU strike resolved now”, “We are tired of staying at home,” “Our rent is wasting,” “We cannot wait anymore.”
Thr Zone D, NANS Coordinator, Etinyene Offongekpe, addressed the students and told the bodies concern to sanction an immediate end to the protracted strike by ASUU.
His words:
“We call on the Federal Government to key into the agreement it signed in 2019 and also on ASUU to shift grounds. We have come to express to the world that we cannot take this anymore.
We are under instructions from the NANS Secretariat to Shut down Abuja, seven days from now. We are mobilising to move to Abuja, we will shut the National Assembly and the Aso Rock.”
