‘They’ve Incurred Wrath Of gods’ – Alayandelu Decries Attack On Oba Of Lagos Palace
By Babatunde Kaka and Zainab Olanrewaju
- Oba Asunmo strongly condemned the shootings by the soldiers.
Alayandelu of Odo-Ayandelu kingdom, Oba Bldr. Aderibigbe Asunmo has condemned the invasion and looting of the Palace of his contemporary, Oba of Lagos by hoodlums.
You will recall that hoodlums invaded the palace of Oba of Lagos last month at height of the unrest and violence that characterised the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests.
Cultural artifacts, including the sacred staff of the King, money and other valuables were carted away during the attack.
Ọba Aderibigbe who spoke during the monthly meeting of Lagos State Ijebu Traditional Rulers which he hosted, described the attack on Idun-Iganran as a sacrilege and abomination.
He wondered why true sons of Yoruba land would invade the Royal palace in the wake of the #EndSARS protests in Lagos.
He also warned the invaders to, as a matter of urgency, return the staff of the king.
” As a First Class Oba in Lagos State, my take home is 51,000 naira only. So, why should traditional rulers be attacked? Those who invaded the Palace of Oba of Lagos have incurred the wrath of the gods of our land on themselves. They should as a matter of urgency return the stolen staff of office to the palace to avert danger. Our youths have to understand that they must respect our traditional institutions. It is even customary to protect a criminal irrespective of the gravity of his crime, having ran into a royal palace in Yoruba land, that is our tradition”, he said.
In spite of painstaking efforts by Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to pacify protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, Oba Asunmo strongly condemned the shootings by the soldiers. He also described arson, looting and destruction of public facilities by hoodlums who hijacked the protests in Lagos as barbaric.
” To those soldiers who shot at the real peaceful protesters at Lekki Toll Gate, you are a soldier today and you are shooting people’s children, tomorrow may not be so. How would they feel if those shot at were their children? These primitive acts of brutality by soldiers are strongly condemned. It is however unfortunate that we lost both private and public properties and businesses to arsonists in Lagos”, he said.
