Shekwo’s Murder: Nigerians Angered By Buhari’s Reaction, Call For Impeachment

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s reaction to the kidnapping and murder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) president of Nasarawa State, Philip Shekwo, Nigerians have fired back at him.

Buhari, in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, his spokesman had earlier said the country’s security system must do more to end incidents of violence in the country.

The late APC president was shot twice, resulting in his death. A police investigation should determine whether it was a murder or a murder linked to an abduction.

In his reaction to the tragic incident, Buhari, while sympathizing with the family of the deceased, said: “I strongly condemn the murder of Philip Shekwo. He was kind and jovial. His contribution to strengthening the party in Nasarawa State will not be forgotten. That his soul rests in peace.”

But his reaction was not welcomed by some social media users who accused the president of turning the country into a nation in mourning.

Some of the reactions observed by DAILY POST also called on the National Assembly to begin the process of impeaching Buhari.

Here are some responses the President received:

@Womanofvoice, “Can someone who is close to Buhari ask him what really prompted him to return to power after failing miserably as head of military states in 1984/1985?”

@FadeyiTitus, “So he could comment on a dead politician but can’t sympathize with more than 10 young youths killed for protesting in their right-hand circumference.”

@OtyJonah, “Well done Mr. Weeping Chef. Keep crying for the blood of the Innocent. Any government that fails to ensure the lives and well-being of its citizens is a failed government. Now weigh your performance and score yourself. As for me, you have failed miserably.

@Otsey, “This government of Buhari has become a grieving specialist. Only under such a failed government will 8 ASPs be removed without any response from the government. This government is just crying. Too bad.”

@hanameisarik, “Can the National Assembly initiate the impeachment of Buhari?” I mean, in 5 years this man got us into 2 recessions. Insecurity is something else. The money collected in the form of loot was stolen and returned nothing. Corruption is still a threat with very weak institutions. “

@womanofvoice, “I haven’t heard the Senate or the House of Representatives talk about impeachment. The insecurities and level of corruption that have drained our economy are enough to remove General Buhari from Aso Rock.

@ReginaldOnyenwe, “” Do more “… what ?! Your security agencies are very good at tracking down innocent and helpless citizens, but run with their tails between their legs when confronted with terrorists. more “looking the other way, when it comes to kidnappers and terrorists.”

@Abraham_onyeke, “A country where the president and vice are just a spectator in the hands of criminals but they release Boko Haram into society @MBuhari @ProfOsinbajo @DrAhmadLawan @femigbaja you better fix the country when you can and can rip her soul.

@FreedomRebelion, “How sad Nigeria has become a docile nation where leaders only want to be heard and don’t like to listen. What kind of ruler sits in his residence and refuses to give a state of the nation press briefing. We will continue to watch things get worse because our government lacks clues.
