#EndSARS: CACOVID To Donate ₦100bn For Police Equipment, Station Rebuilding
The coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has pledged a sum of ₦100 billion to the Nigerian police force.
The coalition said the fund would go into rebuilding police formations that were destroyed during the crisis that trailed the #EndSARS protest.
The private sector-led coalition made this known in a statement on Wednesday.
In October, thousands of youth trooped to the street in protest against police brutality and bad governance under the #EndSARS campaign.
The protest, which started peacefully, took an unfortunate turn, when hoodlums started attacking protesters.
The situation degenerated into a full blown melee which resulted in vandalisation and looting of public and private assets in the country by hoodlums.
In the statement on Wednesday, the coalition affirmed its commitment to restoring security in all locations of the affected police stations.
“CACOVID has committed to fully rehabilitate all 44 damaged and destroyed police stations nationwide in a bid to restore provision of security in affected locations,” the statement read.
