#EndSARS: Army Promotes Officer Representing It At Lagos Judicial Panel
Ibrahim Taiwo has been promoted from brigadier-general to a major-General.
Taiwo is the officer representing the Nigerian army at the panel the Lagos state government set up to probe the Lekki shooting.
Soldiers had, on October 20, stormed the Lekki toll-gate to forcefully dispersed #EndSARS protesters.
The soldiers, in their bid to eject the demonstrators from the protest ground, fired live rounds killing many and injuring others.
The incident was greeted by outrage both within and outside Nigeria.
Following the protest to end police brutality, the Lagos government set up the panel to investigate allegations of rights abuses by the police special anti-robbery squad (SARS).
But the shooting of protesters at Lekki has dominated the panel discourse and proceedings and Taiwo, commander of the army 81 division intelligence brigade, has been the one saving the blushes of the army over the soldiers’ action.
According to TheCable, Taiwo was elevated to the rank of a major-general after the military board approved the promotion of senior officers.
The army’s claims and submissions at the panel over the Lekki shooting have been fraught with contradictions and inconsistencies.

At first, the army denied dispatching soldiers to the protest ground. It later said soldiers were sent there on the invitation of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos.
