Abuja Panel Orders Police To Pay ₦2m Judgement Debt

An independent investigative panel on human rights violations by the defunct SARS unit sitting in Abuja has ordered the police to pay a ₦2 million judgment debt to a complainant, Dr. Martins Iwuanyanwu for denying him access to justice.

Iwuanyanwu claimed his right to access justice was violated and he obtained a judgment of the court which the police is yet to obey.

Chairman of the panel, Justice Suleiman Galadima, during Monday’s sitting, ordered the police to pay the sum immediately based on the judgment of a High delivered on July 10, 2020 which the police have not appealed against.

“The complainant deserves immediate payment. It is therefore ordered that he should be settled immediately without further delay,” Justice Galadima stated.
