The Lagos State police command on Monday debunked reports claiming protest against the brutality of the now-dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the force has resumed in the State.
“The attention of the Lagos State police command has been drawn to this viral video that some youths staged a protest at Lekki tollgate today 7th Dec 2020, it is not true,” the state’s police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said on Twitter on Monday, Ekohotblog gathered.
“No protest in Lagos.”

Adejobi further stated that the viral video going round on social media that shows some of the #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate is an old video which was shot before the tollgate was set ablaze.
In October, the #EndSARS protest took place in different States across the country for more than two weeks.
On October 20, soldiers invaded the Lekki tollgate and allegedly shot some of the protesters. The episode led to the disruption of the peaceful protests and led to arsons and vandalisation of properties.
Amnesty International said it had “credible” evidence that at least 12 people were killed at the Alausa and Lekki that day.
Some witnesses said the bodies of those killed were taken away by the soldiers.
But the Nigerian Army has insisted that no-one was killed claiming they only fired shot to the air and not the protesters.
CNN in November, however, released an investigative report alleging that the Nigerian army used live bullets on protesters.
The international media outlet also unveiled the identity of a protester who reportedly died on the night of the shootings.
CNN said a forensic probe of the bullet casings recovered from the scene of the incident revealed that live bullets were fired at the protesters
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed described the report published by CNN as one-dimensional and lacking in balance.
He also insisted that not a single body has been produced or a single family has come out to identify that their family member was killed at the Lekki tollgate.
