The General Manager of the Lagos State Drivers Institute LASDRI, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu, has urged all professional drivers in Lagos Stae to stop the habit of taking alcoholic boozes before beginning their journeys during and after Christmastide season. Tiamiyu appealed to drivers while speaking on Traffic Radio 96.1FM.

“The dangers of drinking before embarking on a journey Is a lot Even if you do not cause physical injury to yourself or another person, you may hit another object, resulting in thousands of dollars’ worth of property damage. Totaling your vehicle, hitting a stationary object, or causing damage to another person’s property simply is not worth the risk” She stated.

She also stated that research has shown that drivers under the influence of alcoholic beverages could have blurry, unclear, or impaired vision, resulting in misinterpretation and misjudgment of other motorists’ actions, delay in making a swift decision when necessary, and road accidents.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that the General also revealed tut the institute has started developing new courses that will enhance the training curriculum for the year 2021 in educating and orienting all drivers, calling on all professional drivers to present themselves at any of LASDRI’s five training centers and the three annexes spread across the state for their yearly important processionercise.

“Drivers use their hands, eyes, and feet to control the car; but their hands, eyes, and feet must be controlled by their brains. Safe driving requires alertness and the ability to make quick decisions in rapidly changing situations. Drinking alcohol can have a profound effect on driving skills” the Manager said.

“And also to everyone out there if you’re hosting your gathering, offer nonalcoholic beverages, and make sure everyone has a safe ride home. Monitor your drinking to ensure that you help guests make safe choices. By being responsible, you can model that you don’t have to drink excessively or at all to have a good time” she emphasized.

Tiamiyu recounted that part of the Lagos drivers institutes’ mandate is to ensure that all professional drivers in the employment of both government and private organizations are trained, retrained, and recertified at least once annually.
