Lagos Traffic Radio has been commended for prompt and timely dissemination of traffic advisory and information which enables residents to navigate smoothly across the metropolis daily. Lagos Traffic Radio has been applauded for doing a good job.

The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, commended the management and staff of the organization for their relentless effort in providing traffic information as well as solving the problem of traffic gridlock through live reports.

The Deputy Governor, while maintaining that the station has lived up to its mandate, called on residents to always tune in to the Station to plan their journey daily through accurate and well-informed updates provided by the broadcast station.

Dr. Hamzat described this year’s lecture theme as apt, especially in the face of the daunting challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing that the present administration is adopting an inter-modal transport system as it intensifies work on water transportation as well as the ongoing Red Line Rail Project towards for effective Traffic Management and Transportation.

According to the Deputy Governor, with Lagos being a densely populated city, citizens have a major role to play as the government is working round the clock to provide enlightenment through the media and strengthen the traffic monitoring system with technology in solving traffic gridlocks at major hotspots on Lagos roads.

On his part, the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who was one of the Guest Speakers at the virtual event, advised the Station to intensify its efforts in developing more innovative programs, just as he hinted that the State Government plans to install 2000 CCTV cameras to monitor traffic congestion, complement the efforts of traffic managers and combat the menace of traffic offenders on Lagos roads.

Eko Hot Blog learned that Oladeinde revealed that in the coming weeks about 1000 hand-held cameras will be distributed to personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), to enable them to document their operations and ensure proper sanctions to violators of the State traffic laws.

“This is to demonstrate the government’s commitment to leverage technology and up-to-date realities of the post-pandemic era in improving and solving the challenges of transportation and other related matters”, Oladeinde said.

In his tribute, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, who spoke on the topic “Safety Starts with Us: Transportation and Personal Health Responsibility”, stated that since the first index case of COVID-19 in February 2020, Lagos has seen all together, 25,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has tested almost 200,000 people.

Abayomi emphasized the need for Lagosians to follow all safety protocols, encompassing regular hand washing, use of sanitisers, maintaining physical distancing, wearing of face masks to curb the spread of the pandemic, imploring parents and guardians to watch over their kids amid the global health challenge.

Earlier, the host of the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, noted that with 22m trips made daily on Lagos Roads, a well-developed transportation system is critical to its success as a socio-economic model for the African Continent.
