Yuletide Horror: Boko Haram Kills Six In Chibok, Church, Houses Razed
2022 christmas eve will be etched in the memories of some residents of Chibok as putrid spectre of horror after suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded the town and unleashed terror on hapless dwellers of the beleaguered town.
Eko Hot Blog reports that at least six people were killed when rampaging members of the deadly sect killed stormed Pemi, a ward under Chibok local government area of Borno state.
The attack took place on Thursday, when villagers were in high spirits for Christmas celebration.
The attackers also burnt down the EYN (Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria) also known as Church of the Brethren in Nigeria.
Villagers who spoke on the incident said about six cars and five other houses belonging to the church were brunt.
One the villagers said the attack took place around 5:30 on Thursday and the insurgents, who entered the village through Gogombi, came in sets.
The villager said the insurgents started shooting at the church, where Christians were supposed to observe Christmas prayers in the morning, before setting it ablaze.
“They came in batches of two. The first came in with a motorcycle while the other came in heavy vehicles. As soon as they entered the village, they started shooting sporadically and towards the EYN church.
“Then they set it on fire. They also torched six cars and five other buildings around the church. Some of us ran to the bush, but unfortunately six people were killed in the attack. Christians were to observe Christmas prayers in the church this morning.”
However, troops were said to have arrived at the scene long after the insurgents had wreaked havoc and left.
A source said the distance between Pemi and Chibok where the military garrison was stationed might have been responsible for the late arrival of troops.

“Soldiers from 117 task force battalion in Chibok were mobilised, but they got here around 8pm, probably because of the distance as Pemi is about 17 kilometres away from Chibok,” another source said.
He added that things are now under control as the military is putting in effort to secure the Chibok general area.
