COVID-19: FG Speaks On Imposing Another Lockdown Amid Second Wave

The federal government has bemoaned the pervasive disregard for COVID-19 protocol and health advisories aimed at checking the spread of the virulent infection in the country
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos State on Monday, Lai Mohammed, admonished the citizenry to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines put in place by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.
On the imposition of another lockdown in the wake of the COVID-19 resurgence, Ekohotblog reports that Mohammed said the government was not contemplating such measure as part of its effort to curb the spread of the virus.
Recall that the Federal Government had in March 2020 imposed an over month long lockdown on FCT, as Lagos and Ogun States during the first wave of the pandemic.
But addressing the speculation of an imminent lockdown on Monday, Mohammed said the federal government did not at any point in time broach the subject of a second lockdown in order to curtail the second wave of the pandemic.
Mohammed said, “On the issue of lockdown, I do not think there is any time when the Federal Government has said it’s going to have a second lockdown.
“However, the Federal Government is very unhappy that Nigerians aren’t adhering to the basic COVID-19 protocols of wearing face masks or practicing social distancing, of washing hands, of ensuring that they do gather in large numbers.
He noted that If Nigerians continue to scoff at the COVID-19 protocols the cases will continue to swell, adding that the new strain of COVID-19 is more virulent and difficult to tackle than the old strain.

He, however, said the Federal Government would not slow down in its admonitions and pleas to Nigerians to comply with the COVID-19 protocols.
“The Federal Government is aware of the economic and social implications of a second lockdown, but we want to call on Nigerians to help us, help themselves and help the economy, by adhering strictly to the COVID-19 protocols,” he said.
