Lagosians Welfare Paramount To Sanwo-Olu, Says Commissioner
By Babatunde Kaka
Lagos state commissioner for wealth creation and employment, Yetunde Arobieke, has reiterated the commitment of governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration to implementation of social intervention and empowerment programmes that will the state rresidents cross the hurdle economic downturn.
Arobieke was speaking at the disbursement of cash to the residents of the state in Eredo Local Council Development Area.
The conditional cash transfer is part of the ameliorative efforts of the state government to mitigate the effects of the lockdown and the concomitant economic fallout occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recall that no sooner had the federal government locked down the state last year than the administration of Sanwo-Olu kicked off the distribution of palliatives to residents of the state to cushion the impact of the pandemic on them.
In an exclusive interview with Ekohotblog at the cash disbursement exercise that took place at LG Primary School, Igbooye, Epe on Wednesday 6th January 2020, Arobieke hailed Sanwo-Olu towards the actualization of the Conditional Cash Transfer programme in Lagos as established by the Federal Government of Nigeria across the country.
She described Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as such a leader blessed with a high level of empathy for the good people of Lagos State whom he serves.
” He is a highly compassionate person who doesn’t like people to suffer. I know this based on the fact that we have personal discussions. Immediately he heard that Lagos State has not keyed into the Conditional Cash Transfer, he became bothered and when I explained to him, all that we needed to do was to expedite so that we can start benefitting. But the aspect that I appreciate so much was when Abuja people came during the lockdown and they said they needed money for enrollment, Mr Governor dropped the money.
“That has facilitated the actualization of the programme in Lagos State to which this is the 3rd Flagoff we have embarked upon for all the beneficiaries.
” Even outside that, he has shown his willingness to make sure that all the people that are captured on the register are part of the beneficiaries because, in one way or the other, they have a way to do it. They first started with 30%, but in diverse ways, he has been expressing, even to the Ministry of Humanitarian, that he wants all his people that are registered to be part of the programme. So we appreciate Mr Governor, for his love, for his care, for his thoughtfulness and for his willingness to provide succour to these set of the indigent and vulnerable households Sanwo-Olu “, she averred.
The Commissioner says Sanwo-Olu is a selfless and altruistic leader who listens to the yearnings of his people with empathy especially the less privilege.
She also noted that she doesn’t hesitate to commend the Governor at the slightest opportunity because she is like a window through which his excellency could be seen since they enjoy a cordial relationship.
“Each time that I come to officiate a flag off in all the Six main Local Government that has started, I see that they are always very happy, they are always showing appreciation in diverse ways. Some of them would dance and pray to show they’ve never experienced such government benevolence before. So, it is a good and laudable initiative.
“If you do any good thing, I think it is good you allow people to know because it is important, it has a spillover effect of making others know that they need to live a life that is comforting to others. Another thing is that it is an opportunity for people to know who is at the helm of affairs. When they tell you Mr Sanwo-Olu listens, it is not that they are cajoling you, it is true, he listens, he empathizes, he is a hope giver, and he does so many things to less privileged people. That is all that this programme stands for, being there for the less privileged and making sure that everything that they deserve within the confines of government, they should get it.
“There are so many things that slipped you off because some people in government are not doing what is expected of them and people would not benefit. The ability of the man at the helm of affairs has a spillover effect of succour to my people and he is willing to take the bull by the horn, and that’s why he must be commended. That is why at each point I have the opportunity to either eulogize, give accolade or encomium on this personality called Mr Governor, I don’t hesitate to do that because it is from people like us that are close to him that you get to know who he is “, she said.
