Properties Razed As Boko Haram Attacks Yobe Community
There was palpable apprehension at Gujba in Yobe state on Saturday following Invasion of the town by rampaging Boko Haram insurgents.
Gujba town is few kilometers from Damaturu the Yobe State capital.
Ekohotblog gathered that the assailants started shooting sporadically forcing residents to flee their homes as they scamper for safety.
The attack happened less than 24 hours after the Nigerian Military launched an operation codename ‘Tura Takao Bango’ meaning ‘ We have been pushed to the wall’, an offensive meant to annihilate the terrorists and put an end to nefarious activities in the zone
Residents of Gujba, who spoke to newsmen in said their town has been ooverrun the insurgents who burnt down health facilities and other structures in the area.
“Boko Haram is currently attacking our town,” a resident, Umar Adamu told adding that “Our people have left their homes as I am talking to you.”
Gujba seems to be the first reaction by the terrorists shortly after the military said they are ready to give a final push to clear the remnants of the terrorists and deny them the will to operate in the northeast.
Residents of Gubja disclosed that there was rumour of letters in circulation announcing an imminent attack but they deemed the letter a hoax. However, the attack this evening goes to authentic the veracity of the letter
According to Ibrahim Usman, another resident, troops had been deployed to the flash point and effort were underway to subdue the terrorists.
“The attackers who invaded the town this evening have burnt a primary school and construction work equipment”, another resident disclosed.
The identity of the attackers is not yet known, but their mode of operation and strategem is similar to that of the dreadful Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents.
The attack is coming three days after Boko Haram insurgents stormed Geidam town where public and private property were set ablaze and businesses were looted.
