Meet Igwe Onyeneke Orizu III, One Of The Longest Serving Kings In Nigeria
- Igwe Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu III was born in the year 1925.
- He is a nephew to the first senate President in Nigeria, Nwafor Orizu.
- He is the traditional supreme ruler and spiritual leader in Nnewi.
Igwe Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu III is the 20th Obi of Otolo and Igwe of Nnewi kingdom.
Igwe Kenneth is a member of the Nnofo Royal lineage and the successor to his father Igwe Josiah Orizu II, his grandfather Igwe Orizu I and his great grandfather Igwe Iwuchukwu Ezeifekaibeya.
He was coronated on June 2 1963 after the death of his father in 1962. He was 37 at the time of his coronation and has been ruling since then, which is approximately 57 years now, making him the longest serving Monarch in Nigeria.
The 95 year old king is the first king to abolish the “OSU” caste system popularly known as outcaste. This abolishment, made everyone in Nnewi kingdom a freeborn.
He holds the Ofala cultural festival every year in remembrance of his coronation.
The King who is alleged to worth over $30 million has been a source of hope and development to the people of Nnewi. He is well known for his peaceful nature and is a very good peacemaker.
The monarch is blessed with 5 children; Obianefor Orizu (Crown prince), Engr. Prince Chukwudi Orizu, Chibuzor Orizu, Eziafa Orizu and Joy Chika Orizu.
