Manchester City announced their title challenge as they walloped current champions 4-1 at Anfield.
Goals from Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling and Ikay Gundogan helped Manchester City to move five clear at the top of the EPL table.
EPL Table:
AC Milan returned to the top of Seria A table after beating bottom placed Crotone 4-0. Inter 2-0 loss to Juventus paved the way for AC Milan to reclaim the top of the table after beating Crotone.
Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both scored brace in the match with the later getting 500th club career goals in the process.
Serie A table:
Barcelona came from behind to avoid an upset as they beat Real Betis 3-2. Betis opened the scoring through Borja Iglesias in the 38th minute of the game. Messi came off the bench in the second half to inspire the comeback by equalising within three minutes of introduction. Víctor Ruíz scored an own goal to giverify Barca the lead but the defender made amends by restoring parity for his team.
However, Portuguese youngster Trincao struck in the 87th minute to give Barcelona all three points.
Barcelona are still second on the table, seven pints behind leaders Atletico Madrid who have two games in hand.
