An undisclosed number of soldiers and a officer have paid the supreme after the marauding Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists launched devastating offensive on a military formation in the  Borno state

According to HumAngle, The insurgents, who are grounded in attacking military installations, launched the attack in the new Marte town around the Lake Chad axis.

The media outfit reports that at least one officer and several soldiers were allegedly killed during a fierce gun battle that ensued during the attack.

However, the army is yet to confirm the incident with its spokesperson, Mohammed Yerima saying he is not aware of the recent attack

“Did you hear anything from us? If there’s anything, we will get back to you”, Peoples Gazette quoted Yerima, a brigadier-general, to have said.

ISWAP is a faction of the Boko Haram sect that launches deadly attacks within North-East Nigeria, Lake Chad, Niger, and northern Cameroon.

The jihadist fighters specialise in launching attacks on military formations that have led to the deaths of many frontline soldiers and other security operatives in Nigeria.

For years on end, communities and villages in the beleaguered North East have been at receiving end of a devastating insurgency war which has now gone on for over a decade, leaving properties worth millions destroyed, thousands of civilians dead and over two million displaced.

Despite spending billions of dollars fighting against the insurgents over the years, Abuja has yet to win the ongoing war against terrorism.
