Nothing Will Disrupt Our Academic Calendar, NIJ Assures Students
The Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Mr Gbenga Adefaye, says its culture of running a smooth and seamless academic calendar that guarantees graduation of students when they are expected to is still very much in place.
He gave the assurance during the institute’s matriculation ceremony for 267 students admitted to study courses in Mass Communication for the 2020/2021 academic session.
A statement by NIJ’s acting registrar, Patricia Kalesanwo, noted that of the 267 students, 68 are admitted for the National Diploma programme, 96 for Higher National Diploma, and 103 for the Post Graduate Diploma.
“Our record so far is that of a smooth running of the academic sessions without any interruption. It is a thing of pride for us to give a guarantee of seamless training with certainty on your year of graduation.
“There are no strikes, no disruption of scheduled programmes. We have our staff and students to thank for that. We are optimistic of continuing in that great tradition with your support”, the provost was quoted as saying.
Adefaye also reiterated the commitment of the institute to providing the best learning environment for its students, including constant upgrades and the acquisition of state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to meet best practices.
Adefaye said NIJ is concerned and interested in the total development of the students which includes character development.
“At NIJ, we strive to provide a most conducive learning environment as we constantly upgrade our equipment and facilities to meet the current and future best practices.
“We are unrelenting in our acquisition of the state-of-the-art facilities to deliver excellent training,” he added.
According to the provost, the school benefitted from a digitisation support from the National Communication Commission for seamless internet connectivity and cloud hosting.
He also noted that the upgrade on the NIJ’s Information, Communication and Technology centre was originally supported by the National Information Technology Development Agency.
Adefaye said the school had also launched an internet radio, The Pen Radio, saying this would assist in the delivery of quality hands-on training to the students.
He stated that the institute would sustain its efforts on processing a license for campus radio and floating an online newspaper.
