Chaos Grips Lagos Mainland As Rival Cult Groups Clash
The Lagos Mainland area of Lagos State, on Thursday, has been thrown into chaos as some suspected rival cult groups were said to have engaged themselves in a fiery street fight which led to one fatality as well as injuries to an unconfirmed number of cultists.
The deceased, simply identified as “Badoo” was said to be embarking on his daily routine when he was trapped in the gunfire and was shot dead on the spot.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that Badoo was a well known cultist who inspired fear among residents of Lagos Mainland.
The cultists were said to have blocked off the alternative routes in the axis having accessed the area through Jebba and Oko-Baba streets.
An eye witness who identified himself as Engineer Moronfolu Abedoye said the violence started at about Noon and lasted for about 45 minutes before the intervention by men of Nigeria Police, Delton, Lagos.
He said the street fight was characterized by free use of dangerous weapons and guns by the suspected cultists.
Herbert Macauley, Adekunle and neighboring streets are also said to have witnessed an extension of the hostilities.
Eye witnesses’ account said the violence hamstrung vehicular and human traffic as motorists, road users, residents and traders all scuttled in every direction in search of safety.
As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, the hoodlums took adavantage of the chaos to loot nearby shops and vehicles, making away with valuables to the tune of thousands of naira.
An eye witness, Mr. Eriola Adedapo said he was aboard a public transport conveyance when the violence suddenly erupted. He said, “I boarded the bus from Fadeyi enroute Oyingbo to alight at Post Office but the bus conductor delayed me due to lack of “change”. Out of annoyance, I followed the vehicle to UBA area when suddenly there were gunshots and we all ran for our dear lives. Till now, my N800 balance is still with the conductor,”

Other witnesses said schools and offices were shut for hours to avoid further plundering.
In a related development, no less than five people were killed in a fresh cultists clash which occurred on Wednesday, in Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The incident which occurred at about 7pm, at Owode-Ibeshe has plunged residents into panic. Unconfirmed reports said Lagos State Police Command have made some arrests and recovered some weapons in connection with both the Lagos Mainland and Ibeshe-Ikorodu unrest.
Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
