#EndSARS: Don’t Engage In Violence, It Hinders Growth, Tinubu Tells Youth
Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has admonished youth in Lagos to refrain from destructive and violent acts as involvment in such acts could derail their progress and scuttle their aspirations.
The former Lagos state governor issued the admonition while speaking at the inauguration of the Agege Pen-Cinema Bridge in Lagos on Friday,
Tinubu’s statement is against the backdrop of the violence and destruction that characterised the aftermath of the October 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality in many states of the federation.
Recall that what started as a peaceful and well coordinated demonstration became a free-for-all affair when it was hijacked by hoodlums, resulting in chaos, vandalism and arson in some states.
In Lagos, Private entities, government properties and public facilities were looted, vandalized and set ablaze in some cases.
Speaking on the incident, Tinubu implored the youth to embrace peace, adding that the government was ready to assist them in actualising their aspiration and realising their dreams.
He advised them not to imitate brigands and social miscreants, noting that peace and stability is essential for development.
“Don’t copy vagabonds and those who are into thuggery. There is no development if there is no peace. We must encourage peace. The government will ensure that you get the right education. Education is an investment in your future,” Tinubu said.
“Destruction and disruption will not help you to reach the destination you desire to reach. We will support your aspirations but help the state, ensure peace in our state and country.”

The former Lagos governor hailed the state government for carrying on with its developmental projects amid the chaos and economic hiccups witnessed during the protests.
“Despite the turbulence and crisis of the virus, the lockdown, you are able to continue to deliver this state. You have shown great determination as a government,” he said.
