Nigeria Does Not Need Mercenaries To Defeat Terrorists —NSA
Babagana Monguno, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, has stated that the country’s fight against terrorism does not require the use of foreign mercenaries under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Monguno stated this during a press conference on Thursday, adding that the Buhari administration believes the country is well-equipped to deal with Boko Haram’s insurgency and other security challenges without the need for outside assistance, as many have advocated.
According to the NSA, Buhari would not sanction the use of mercenaries to fight insurgency because he is “more interested in how to use the nation’s resources to win the counter-terrorism war” than in “national pride and other non-specific issues.”

“What we’re looking at here is that we have the resources; it’s just that they’ve been misapplied and underutilized, which has harmed our ability to deal with these people,” Monguno explained.
He also stated that the government will continue to provide troops with equipment and intelligence in order to completely eliminate terrorists.
