Police Kill Two In Abuja Failed Kidnap Attempt
The Abuja police command says its men foiled a Kidnap attempt in a suburb of the Federal capital territory on Sunday.
The police operatives killed two of the suspected kidnappers while trying to whisk away their victims, Daily Trust reports.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at Naharati community in Abaji Area Council.
The outlet reports that the kidnappers were killed during a gun duel with the police and members of the vigilante group guarding the neighbourhood.
However, the report cited a source as saying that the gunmen stormed the community in large numbers around 1:00a.m. shortly after they gained entrance into a few houses.
Ekohotblog gathered that the gunmen had abducted four persons including a 13-year-old boy before they were dislodged by security operatives.
“They started shooting sporadically into the air to scare residents after they kidnapped four people,” the witness said.
FCT police command spokeswoman, Mariam Yusuf confirmed the incident on Sunday afternoon.
Yusuf disclosed that the remaining members of the kidnappers are at large as the command launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
“The FCT Police Command in the wee hours of Sunday 14th March 2021 repelled a group of suspected Kidnappers at Naharati Village along Abaji axis.”
“However, two of them sustained serious injuries, were taken to the hospital for treatment unfortunately, were certified dead while receiving treatment.” the police said.
Residents living in communities in Abuja located at the outskirts of the capital city are living in fear due to kidnapping activities by bandits over the years.
