Romance Scam: They Now Use Their Girlfriends Or Female Accomplices [VIDEO]
- Funny how they sound as if they are right next door, when they are really half a world away
Internet fraudsters may have found a more convincing way to fleece unsuspecting victims of their monies through romance scams.
Many agencies and websites have outlined signs and tips online daters should look out for to avoid being scammed when starting relationships online but the crooked scammers may have found a way around these tips, especially where it is stated that if your supposed love interest does not take calls or send voice notes. Now all they need to do, especially as it relates to Nigeria is make use of a female accomplice that can speak the American English (with all the language mannerisms therein).

Over a couple of days, Nigeria’s twittersphere was buzzing as it became awashed with videos of females speaking (in American accent) to their victims who sounded American over the phone as part of a scheme to extort or fleece them. And, of course, no one would likely suspect anything if there is a feminine voice posing as the individual behind the female profile on the dating app or website.
In one of the videos this writer saw, the lady in picture was heard asking the victim for a card (most likely a gift card), which is one of the subtle asks of these scammers before moving on to greater things.
While this may seem like a new approach by these fraudsters, it might have been around for a while only rejigged to suit the current dispensation. These ladies are now in high demand.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been working in collaboration with the United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to arrest and prosecute persons found wanting of these crimes but truth be told, it doesn’t seem like this nefarious act is being nipped in the bud.
While many persons engaged in this act will argue that there are no jobs or the economy is not helping matters, what they need to understand is that their actions have serious financial and emotional consequences, affecting hundreds of thousands of people. Their victim(s) experience significant emotional distress as well as financial losses and sometimes die from the shock.
