Meet The Igbo Lady Whose Life May Be At Risk If She Returns To Nigeria
- Blasphemy has been in the news lately following the cruel death of a man identified as Talle Mai Ruwa for allegedly insulting Prophet Mohammad.
- In the horrific knmji pictures of the incident, which went viral on social media, the man was captured covered with tyres while being set ablaze.
- Many Nigerians have condemned the killing of Mai Ruwa but blasphemy against Islam or Prophet Muhammad is a serious offence.
Just like Mai Ruwa, a beautiful lady identified as Isioma Nkemdilim Nkiruka Daniel would have also been killed for alleged blasphemy in 2002 if she hadn’t flee from Nigeria.
Isioma Nkemdilim Nkiruka Daniel is a Christian, she was a Nigerian journalist whose 2002 article sparked riots that led to death of over 200 people and burning of properties. Isioma who was just 21-years-old at that time wrote an article on Thisday newspaper which involved Prophet Muhammad.
In the article, Isioma suggested that Prophet Mohammed may have approved of the Miss World contest which was to be hosted in Kaduna.
She also said that Prophet Muhammad may have wished to marry one of the beauty pageants. This provoked many Nigerian Muslims, and deadly riots followed.
“The Muslims thought it was immoral to bring 92 women to Nigeria to ask them to revel in vanity,” she wrote.
“What would Mohammed think? In all honesty, he would probably have chosen a wife from one of them”. She concluded
Isioma had no option but to flee from Nigeria to save her life. Despite her apology, a fatwa was issued on her life meaning any muslim as a religious duty could kill her.
However, the death penalty was rejected by Lateef Adegbite who was then the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Lateef Adegbite rejected the death sentence because Isioma was not a Muslim and the newspaper had apologised publicly.
Isioma out of fear of being killed by Jihadis fleed Nigeria to Europe. She is currently 40-years-old and now lives in Norway, EKO HOT BLOG gathered.
